Exposure of the body to radiationof the radioactive substances had destructive effects. Diagnostic and therapeutic use of radioiodine and x-ray in medicine leads to greater attention to the biological effects of these factors and the risks that Threatens the recipient. The aim of this study was to evaluate changes in levels of melatonin following exposure of iodine 131 and X-ray in adult male rat.Sixty adult male rats were randomly divided into three equal groups. The first group was selected as the control group; the second group received 1mc of iodine 131 for 2 weeks and the third group received 0.5 mA / sec of X-ray once. After anesthetizing the mice, were taken 2cc blood from the heart of all of them for hormonal study. The ELISA method was used to measure the serum level of melatonin. Data were analyzed using SPSS. The results of the comparison in the studied groups showed a significant decrease in the level of melatonin in the iodine 131-receiving group compared to the control group. However, there was no significant change in the level of this hormone in the X-ray receptor group compared to the control group. According to the results, it can be concluded that radioactive iodine reduces the level of melatonin hormone, but X-ray had not destructive effects in altering the melanotine hormone.
